Kashmiri Kahwa is a souful warming drink popular in Kashmir. It is made using whole whiffy spices which includes cinnamon, cardamom withal with untried tea, saffron and garnished with chopped nuts.

  • Green Tea – Use good quality untried tea for a unconfined flavour. You can moreover omit untried tea if you wish too.
  • Spices – The main whole spcies used for kahwa are cinnamon and cardamom. Some kahwa recipes use cloves also.

Ingredients

  • one 1 inch cinnamon
  • 2 cardamom
  • 2 cups water
  • around 10 strands saffron
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp green tea leaves
  • 5 almonds

Instructions

  • To a mortar and pestle add 2 cardamom and one 1 inch cinnamon. Crush it roughly adn set it aside.
  • Chop 5 almonds into small shit and set aside.
  • To a sauce pan add 2 cups water. Once it starts to swash add crushed items withal with 10 strands saffron.
  • Give a quick mix.
  • Boil for 10 mins.
  • Boil in low medium flame keeping it covered for the flavours to stay intact.
  • After 10 mins if you see you can see a deep yellow verisimilitude infused with a unconfined zephyr of the spices steeped in.
  • Add 2 tsp sugar. Adjust equal to your preference.
  • Give a quick mix. Switch off and remove from flame.
  • Now add 1/2 tsp untried tea leaves. You can add 1 tsp if you want a strong tea flavour.
  • Keep covered for 5 mins for the tea to steep in the flavours.
  • Strain and discard the remains.
  • Kahwa tea is ready!
  • To the serving cup add chopped nuts first.
  • Pour in hot kahwa.
  • Garnish with saffron strands and chopped almonds.
  • Hot Kashmiri Kahwa is ready!

  • You can serve Kahwa without sweetner too its purely your preference. Traditional Kahwa has sweetner but if you prefer you can skip it.
  • I usually add untried tea without switching off. Cover and set whispered for the tea to steep in. This way your untried tea wil never wilt bitter.
  • The verisimilitude of Kahwa depends purely on the saffron variety used. It ranges from light yellow to deep yellow.
  • Crushing and subtracting whole spices helps in infusing the flavour well.

16.Garnish with saffron strands and chopped almonds.
